Fire — The Biggest Invisible Risk to Any Industry (The Problem)

In Bangladesh’s apparel and manufacturing sector, fire remains one of the most devastating hazards. A single short-circuit or one unprotected boiler room can destroy crores of taka in machinery and raw materials — and, most importantly, cost human lives.

Many factories either lack a Fire Protection System or have one that is poorly designed. When fire breaks out, adequate fire water fails to reach the affected area, sprinklers don’t activate, and alarms sound too late. On top of that, failing Accord/RSC and buyer compliance can lead to cancelled orders.

Across Bangladesh’s industrial sector, the leading causes of fire repeatedly come down to electrical faults (short circuits), inadequate fire protection and weak emergency preparedness — meaning most losses are preventable with proper design and readiness.

Why a Fire Protection System Is Essential (Importance)

  • Saving lives: An effective Fire Protection System is the first condition for protecting workers, staff and assets.
  • Buyer compliance: Accord, RSC and international buyers do not place orders without NFPA-grade fire safety.
  • Legal requirement: Fire-fighting provisions are mandatory under BNBC and Fire Service regulations.
  • Insurance & continuity: Proper systems ease insurance and help resume production quickly after an incident.
  • Brand protection: A single fire can destroy a reputation built over many years.

Compliant vs. Risky Fire Systems (Comparison)

A fire reveals how good the design really was — the difference is NFPA-based hydraulic design.

Aspect Compliant Design (CSD Engineers) Risky / Unplanned System
Water & pressure Accurate, hydraulic-calculation-based sizing Water/pressure fails to reach in an emergency
Detection Addressable detection, fast response Late alarms, irreversible loss
Buyer audit Passes Accord/RSC/NFPA Audit failure, cancelled orders
Approval Approval with full FSCD documentation Approval gets stuck
Insurance & cost Easier insurance, lower long-term risk High risk and costly damage

Our Team & Manpower (Team)

CSD Engineers is led by Engr. Md. Shah Jalal (B.Sc Civil, DUET; MIEB). We have a dedicated team of experienced Fire/MEP engineers, designers and certified technicians, backed by 50+ skilled manpower who handle every stage in-house — from design to installation and commissioning.

Safety & Quality

We design every system to NFPA and BNBC guidelines.

We then verify performance through hydrostatic, flow, functional and acceptance testing, and complete pressure certification and a pre-commissioning checklist.

During installation, our own safety protocols, quality-control checklists and third-party inspection support ensure the system performs flawlessly when a real emergency strikes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long does it take to install a Fire Protection System?

It depends on factory size and system complexity. A medium garments factory’s full Hydrant, Sprinkler and Detection system typically takes 6–12 weeks from design to commissioning. We provide an exact timeline after a site visit.

What is required for Accord/RSC compliance?

A hydraulic-calculation-based Hydrant and Sprinkler network, adequate Fire Pump capacity, Addressable detection, exit routes, fire doors and documentation. CSD Engineers designs and implements this entire compliance package.

Is a Fire Protection System mandatory for Fire Service approval?

Yes. For most factories, garments units, warehouses and commercial buildings, a prescribed Fire Protection System is mandatory to obtain Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defence (FSCD) approval.

What is the difference between Addressable and Conventional fire alarms?

Conventional systems are zone-based, indicating only the general area of a fire. Addressable systems identify each detector individually, pinpointing the exact location instantly — safer and faster for large factories.

Do small factories also need sprinklers?

It depends on risk level and stored materials. Many can start with hydrants, extinguishers and detection; however, sprinklers are strongly recommended for high-risk storage. We advise correctly after a fire risk assessment.

Can you upgrade systems in an existing factory?

Yes. We retrofit and upgrade while keeping production running — adding new hydrant lines, extra sprinklers, addressable panels or fire pumps.

Do you provide maintenance support after installation?

Yes. We offer annual AMC, regular flow/pressure testing, battery and detector checks, and operator training so the system stays always ready.

What does the cost depend on?

Cost depends on factory area, number of floors, risk category, pump capacity, pipe length and system type (Conventional vs Addressable). We provide a transparent BOQ-based quotation after a site visit.

What is the difference between NFPA 13 and NFPA 14?

NFPA 13 is the code for automatic sprinkler systems, while NFPA 14 covers standpipe and hose systems. In short, sprinklers suppress fire automatically, whereas standpipes let the fire service or trained teams get water to every floor.

What Fire Pump HP/capacity is needed?

It depends on building height, risk category and hydraulic demand. Per NFPA 20, the required flow (GPM) and pressure (PSI) are calculated to select the right pump capacity — so it varies from project to project.

How often should a flow test be done?

Per NFPA 25, flow tests and inspections should be carried out regularly (typically annually, with some items quarterly). We perform these tests and reporting under our AMC.

How long does FSCD approval take?

It depends on documentation readiness and the Fire Service process. Correct design and complete submission drawings shorten it considerably; we handle the entire FSCD coordination and documentation.

What happens if you skip AMC?

Without regular maintenance, pumps, batteries or detectors may fail in an emergency — and skipping AMC also puts buyer audits and FSCD compliance at risk.
