Soil Investigation & Testing Services in Bangladesh

Your Building’s Safety Begins Deep Beneath the Ground

For any construction project in Bangladesh, professional Soil Test in Bangladesh — proper soil testing — is the very first step toward a safe and durable foundation design. Before constructing any high-rise building, factory, or infrastructure, the most critical—yet most overlooked—step is Soil Investigation & Testing.

You may invest crores in the most modern design and the finest construction materials, but whether your building can truly bear the load, withstand an earthquake, or avoid settling years later — the entire answer lies hidden deep within the soil of your land.

Designing a foundation without knowing the actual Soil Bearing Capacity is as dangerous as driving blindfolded. Proper soil testing not only ensures the safety of your structure but also reduces unnecessary over-expenditure, making your foundation budget far more economical.

Since 2013, CSD Engineers has delivered precise geotechnical investigation and soil testing services across hundreds of residential, commercial, and industrial projects in Bangladesh. We analyze the true engineering properties of the soil, so your dream structure stands on a firm and secure foundation. As a trusted Soil Investigation Company and Geotechnical Consultancy, we provide complete Soil Boring, Borehole Drilling, Soil Bearing Capacity Test, and Foundation Investigation solutions.

Why Is Accurate Soil Testing So Crucial?

Starting construction without soil testing means risking both your investment and human lives. A reliable soil investigation report guarantees:

  • Correct Foundation Selection: Precisely determine whether shallow (Footing) or deep (Pile) foundations are required based on soil strata.
  • Cost Savings: Avoid over-design and save significant money by using the correct amount of rebar and concrete.
  • Earthquake & Disaster Resilience: Identify soil behavior (such as liquefaction risk) in advance to enable seismic-resistant design.
  • Future Risk Prevention: Protect against catastrophic settlement, cracking, or tilting of the structure.
  • Legal Approvals: An authentic soil test report is mandatory for design approval from RAJUK, Pourashavas, or local authorities.

Our Comprehensive Soil Investigation Services

To reveal the true picture beneath the surface, we provide a complete package of field and laboratory tests following international standards (ASTM — American Society for Testing and Materials, and BNBC — Bangladesh National Building Code).

Every project site is different. No two soil profiles are exactly alike. That’s why we never rely on assumptions.

Field Investigation:

  • Soil Boring & Drilling: We collect soil samples from shallow to deep bores (typically 30 ft to 150+ ft deep) based on project loads, using precise wash boring and percussion methods to capture every stratum.
  • Standard Penetration Test (SPT): The most reliable field test for determining soil bearing capacity, recording the N-Value at specified depths to measure soil density and strength — a key indicator for evaluating soil bearing capacity.
  • Undisturbed & Disturbed Sample Collection: Samples are collected while preserving the natural structure of the soil for accurate laboratory analysis.
  • Ground Water Table Identification: Determining the depth of the groundwater level — essential for basement and underground structure design.

Laboratory Testing:

  • Grain Size Analysis (Sieve & Hydrometer): Accurate classification of soil as sand, silt, or clay.
  • Atterberg Limits Test: Measuring the plasticity and liquidity limits of clay soils.
  • Direct Shear Test: Analyzing the soil’s resistance to lateral and shear forces.
  • Triaxial Compression Test: An advanced, precise measurement of shear strength and stability — especially critical for heavy industrial structures.
  • Consolidation Test: Predicting potential future settlement of the structure.
  • Moisture Content, Specific Gravity & Unit Weight: Determining the water retention and density of the soil.
  • Chemical Tests (Sulphate & Chloride): Checking for harmful chemicals that may damage concrete and rebar.

📊 Recommended Bore Depth by Project Type

Project Type Typical Borehole Depth Typical Foundation
Residential (low-rise) 30–50 ft Shallow / Footing
Commercial / mid-rise 50–80 ft Footing / Raft
High-rise / Factory 80–150+ ft Pile / Deep

Actual depth is determined by soil strata and building load.

Frequently Asked Questions (Soil Test FAQ)

1. How long does a soil test take?

Field boring for a typical residential project is usually completed within 1–3 days, and the final report (including full laboratory testing) is delivered within 5–7 working days. This may vary depending on project size, the number of boreholes, and depth.

2. What does the cost of a soil test depend on?

The cost mainly depends on the number and depth of boreholes, the site location, the type of lab tests required, and the load and importance of the project. Contact us for a customized quotation.

3. How deep does the boring need to go?

Boring depth depends on the building load and the soil strata. While 30–50 ft is often sufficient for ordinary residential buildings, high-rise or heavy industrial structures may require 100–150+ ft, until a firm and reliable soil layer is reached.

4. Is it safe to construct a building without a soil test?

No. Designing a foundation without soil testing is highly risky — it can lead to settlement, cracking, or even collapse, and often raises costs through unnecessary over-design. A soil test is essential for both safety and savings.

5. Is a soil test report mandatory for RAJUK approval?

Yes. An authentic soil test report is generally mandatory for design approval and structural design submission to RAJUK, Pourashavas, and local authorities.

6. How many boreholes are required for a project?

The number of boreholes depends on the plot size, building type, and load distribution. One or two may suffice for an ordinary residential plot, while large factories or high-rise projects may need several (3–8 or more) to capture an accurate picture of the entire site.

7. What is the difference between SPT and CPT?

In an SPT (Standard Penetration Test), a sampler is driven with a hammer to record the N-Value while also collecting soil samples. In a CPT (Cone Penetration Test), a cone is pushed continuously into the soil, providing fast, continuous data but no samples. SPT is the most widely used method for most projects in Bangladesh.

8. Can I use an old soil test report?

Usually no. A neighboring plot’s report or one from years ago may not reflect the true conditions of your specific land, since soil strata can change over short distances. For a safe and approvable design, a fresh site-specific soil test is recommended.

9. How does a residential soil test differ from a factory soil test?

Residential buildings usually require shallower boring and fewer boreholes. Factories and heavy industrial structures involve higher loads, machine vibration, and larger footprints, requiring deeper boring, more boreholes, and additional lab tests such as consolidation and triaxial tests.
